Why “Mystery.”

One dictionary definition for the word “mystery” is “any truth unknowable except by divine revelation.” I’m looking for a name for my Bible category. I considered “Mystery Revealed” but that sounds like all has been revealed and is now plain. So I changed it to “Revealed Mystery,” because the “revelation” cannot reveal [...]

Old Words, still New

I learned to repeat the names of the books of the Old Testament at a young age. Then I learned that the last 12 books were called the “minor prophets.” When I began reading the Bible through every year, I was always pleasantly surprised with phrases in those short books that spoke to [...]

Thoughts for today…

…from the minor prophets of the Hebrew Scriptures.
Hosea
5:4 – their deeds did not permit them to return to their God
7:14 – they do not cry out to me from their hearts but wail upon their beds
8:12 – I wrote for them many things of my law, but they regarded them as something alien
9:7-8 – [...]

The “patches”

It’s hard to know where to put the odd-sized “patches” in my cyber-quilt.

With God Alone

Hebrews 4:12

In San Diego

December 23:
I wish I could capture just one 45 minute walk in words on paper. That’s not reasonable, is it? Black tracks on white paper (or computer screen) cannot possibly capture the sights, the sounds and the memories–or can they?
Up the hill from Ellen’s house to West Overlook, turn right–why did I have [...]

In the Imperial Valley

At Louise’s I learned that I can walk on the dirt road along the drain ditch at the side of her property. I can walk a quarter of a mile east and back in about 20 minutes. Or I can turn the corner and keep walking another quarter mile south almost to the [...]

In the Neighborhood

I wanted to be sure to take my favorite walk while I am here, so I made a small lunch and was walking down our hill at 12:10 pm. I walk down Ash Street and east on Rincon to a real walking path. Before I reach the path, I walk along a deep [...]
