Read Genesis 3:1-6
Adam or Jesus?
BIBLE THOUGHT: “but the world must learn that I love the Father and that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me.” (John 14:31, NIV)
And that is the difference between Adam and Jesus. It is also the difference between all of us and Jesus. Human nature thinks it knows enough to run its own life. Like Eve, and then Adam, we look at what is “good for food and pleasing to the eye and what is desirable for gaining worldly wisdom,” and that is what we often choose.
Is that how we really are? All of us? I think so. It starts early in life. Did you ever see a 2-year-old who didn’t have his own agenda?
It’s not that we always choose evil over good. It’s that we choose what seems good to our human judgment. Our choice may not fit God’s plan at all. Even when we choose according to our own personal knowledge of “good,” we are leaving God out of the picture. If my choice brings results that seem good to me, I think I am the one who deserves the credit. When I choose to do exactly what my Father has commanded, it is my Father in heaven who is glorified.
Hymn: “Have Thine Own Way, Lord.”
Father, I confess that I like things to be done my way. Help me to trust you always. I want to be like Jesus and do exactly what you have commanded me. I pray in his name and because of his life.
